MDG Global Leaders
Millennium Promise proudly collaborates with a growing team of MDG Global Leaders who are dedicated to educating and encouraging other leaders and the general public to join the movement to end extreme poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
Our Millennium Promise MDG Global Leaders include fashion icons Tommy Hilfiger and Renzo Rosso, and music legend Youssou NDour. Each of these extraordinary partners brings his energy, expertise, and spirit of innovation to our organization.
Tommy Hilfiger
In 1995, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger launched The Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation to enrich the physical and intellectual well being of youth with a major emphasis on education and cultural programs that impact a diverse population.
In 2009, the Foundation launched a partnership with Millennium Promise and the Millennium Villages Project. Through support for interventions to improve maternal and child health, boost crop yields, extend access to safer water, and support quality education, the Foundation is helping to benefit the Millennium Village of Ruhiira in Uganda.
Through visits and employee engagement, Mr. Hilfiger, the Corporation, and the Foundation have built a strong relationship with the community in Ruhiira. From building schools and clinics to planting trees to finding inspiration, it is the kind of rich, committed partnership that makes the Millennium Villages Project succeed.
The partnership celebrates the Foundations globalization of its philanthropic mission to help build a healthy and civil society by supporting education, physical well-being and cultural programs. It also marks the first major global effort supported by The Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation.
Renzo Rosso
enzo Rosso, founder of Diesel, is president of the Only the Brave Foundation (OTB), whose mission is to mobilize youth to contribute to the eradication of poverty around the world, with a specific focus on Africa.
Renzo and OTB began a partnership with Millennium Promise in 2009 to support the 20,000 residents of Dioro, a village situated within the Millennium Village of Tiby, Mali. . The community in Dioro is experiencing better health, education, and quality of life thanks to OTB's participation in the Millennium Villages Project.
The Foundation's latest achievement is building a new secondary school in Dioro -- the first in the cluster. The school will open in fall 2012 and will bring 600 students in this underserved area an opportunity to continue their education past primary school. As an MDG Global Leader, Renzo also helps engage and inspire corporate leaders and influencers around the world to join him in the movement.
Youssou NDour
Youssou NDour, the iconic Senegalese musician, philanthropist, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, was named the first MDG Global Leader in 2009. His passion, vision, and leadership inspire us all in the fight against poverty, hunger, and preventable disease.
As a friend of Millennium Promise, Youssou helps to broadcast and engage the public, especially in Africa, with the message of our mission to eradicate extreme poverty. His commitment to this work, especially through anti-malaria and other awareness-raising campaigns, has made him a celebrated humanitarian.
